Public holidays 2027 by country
The 2027 public holidays for 14 countries remote teams hire in, from each government’s own list, with the weekdays that leave a team short.
Which 2027 public holidays affect a distributed team most?
New Year’s Day (Friday, January 1) is off in 15 of the 16 lists below, every one except India’s, and Good Friday (March 26) in 13, every one except the US federal list, France and Ireland. Easter Monday (March 29) is off in 10. Monday, May 31 is both Memorial Day in the US and the Spring bank holiday in the UK, so a US and UK team has nobody working that day. Plan cover for those dates first.
Dates checked against official sources, most recently on October 27, 2026 · Download all dates as CSV
The weeks to plan cover
- Easter, March 25 to 29. Spain is off Thursday (most regions), 13 lists are off Friday and 10 are off Monday. A team in Spain and the UK has someone off on Thursday, Friday and Monday of the same week.
- Lunar New Year, February 8 and 9. Hong Kong is off Monday and Tuesday, and Singapore is off Monday for anyone whose rest day is Sunday.
- May. The UK and Ireland are off May 3, the UK is off May 31, Germany, France and the Netherlands are off for Ascension (Thursday, May 6) and Whit Monday (May 17), the US is off May 31, and India is off May 17 and May 20.
- Christmas, December 24 to 28. US federal offices close Friday, December 24. The UK, New South Wales and New Zealand are off Monday and Tuesday, December 27 and 28, because Christmas and Boxing Day fall on the weekend; Hong Kong and South Africa are off Monday, December 27. Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Singapore, Ireland and India list them on the Saturday and Sunday only.
- Labor Day and Thanksgiving in North America. The US and Canada are both off Monday, September 6. On Monday, October 11, it is Columbus Day in the US and (expected) Thanksgiving in Canada.
Weekends change the count. Germany’s nine nationwide holidays give only five weekdays off in 2027, because Labour Day, German Unity Day and both Christmas days fall on a Saturday or Sunday. The US list gives 11 weekdays off, because federal holidays on a weekend move to the Friday before or the Monday after.
Every weekday someone is off in 2027

What this list does not cover
It lists national dates, plus the UK nations, one Australian state and the central government list for Delhi. It does not list US state holidays, Indian state holidays, German or Spanish regional days, Canadian provincial holidays, the other Australian states, New Zealand anniversary days or company closures. It also does not say who must get a day off or how much they are paid for it: that depends on each country’s law and each person’s contract.
Governments can add or move a holiday during the year. Check the linked source before you book anything that cannot move.
Turn the dates into a cover plan
Put each teammate’s country holidays into your team vacation calendar next to booked vacation, so a holiday in one country and leave in another show up on the same day. When most of the team is out, the team coverage planner checks whether enough people are left, and the time zone overlap calculator shows who is working while the others are off. For anything that cannot wait, name the covering owner in a vacation coverage plan.
